THC is a psychoactive cannabinoid with medicinal values produced by the cannabis plant. THC influences the endocannabinoid system by acting on CB1 & CB2 receptors.
Different isomers of THC have increased in popularity due to their current legal federal status in the United States. Delta 8 and 10 THC have the same molecular formula as the well-known federally illegal delta 9 THC however they have a different arrangement of atoms in the molecule. Delta 8 has a double bond on the eighth carbon atom in its molecular structure while Delta 9 has a double bond on the ninth carbon atom and delta 10 has a double bond on the 10th carbon atom. These differences in the location of the double bond determine how the cannabinoids interact with our CB receptors.
Delta-8 THC
Delta 8 THC has a lower affinity for CB receptors which means it has a weaker binding strength making it less potent than Delta 9 THC. According to studies users of Delta 8 THC experienced relaxation, euphoria, pain relief, and reduced inflammation. Users of Delta 8 also experienced fewer unwanted side effects of anxiety or paranoia. This leads researchers to believe that Delta 8 THC may serve as a better alternative to traditional Delta 9 THC for users looking to utilize the medicinal benefits of THC.
Delta-9 THC
Delta-9 THC is the traditional form of THC which is currently federally illegal in the United States. Delta-9 THC is produced in the highest concentrations of THC molecules in the cannabis plant. Delta 9 has the highest affinity for CB receptors which makes it the most potent out of all of the THC isomers.
Delta-9 has shown antiemetic, appetite stimulant, and analgesic properties.
Delta-9 can be used as a treatment for nausea, Crohn's disease, fibromyalgia, Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, ADHD, sleep apnea, appetite loss, PTSD, insomnia, inflammation, arthritis, migraines, cancer, neuropathic & chronic pain, etc.
Delta- 10 THC
Delta-10 has a lower affinity for CB receptors than Delta-8 which means it is the least potent isomer of THC. Users of Delta-10 experience slight euphoric effects which cause elevated moods and feelings of "bliss." Users also experienced a boost in energy and motivation.
If you are suffering from anxiety or stress Delta-10 may be the best option for you.
